Wine were the same - finally found the problem.
You need to remove a few nuts & bolts

Yes. On the Baron 58 the flap handle and the gear handle are often
reversed.

Beech was correct in the old airplanes, flaps close to the
throttle and the landing gear a long reach. Mooney went one
better with their gear switch on some models at the top
center of the instrument panel

But Cessna built 5-10 times as many airplanes as Beech so
the FAA adopted the Cessna pattern in Part 23.

I put my flaps down and my longjohns broke the buttons on
the rear.
