Winter flying in Iowa Videos

For you folks who fly in more temperate climates, I thought I'd post a
couple of videos that show what real winter flying is all about...

There is nothing like winter flying to make you appreciate Mr. Piper's
blast-furnace heater! We fly our Pathfinder in shirtsleeves, even
now.

Seemed like a decent oleo workout.

You also demonstrated why I avoid handheld video for landings. No matter how
smooth the greaser, the camera always shakes way out of proportion to the
event.

Actually, Mary *did* get a bit slow on short final. She was trying
touch down with as little forward speed as possible, lest we slip on
the ice, and plopped it a bit.

Perfectly acceptable, just not a "greaser".

Personally, I'm AMAZED at the good quality of the video I get from
little Canon Elph still camera. Yes, it's hard to hold still, but
I've *always* got it with me, which means I can take video of my kids
(and flying) a lot more often.

For cold weather, that seemed like a long departure run? Did you start out
slower, at first, to get a feel for the surface?

Maybe the camera moving around made Atlas appear to be rolling faster than
he actually was.

WOW! I was going to ask what you used for a videocam. I will have to use
my Canon and compare output.

I also have a little Canon Elph (3.2 MP) and it does take amazing
movies. But, it will eat up memory.

That's nothing, I'm in Utah now doing some falling-down-mountainsides at
high speed (in my lame attempt to ski) and saw a couple of guys skiing
in T-shirts at Alta the other day :-)

If I'm videoing someone else's landing, I always deliberately shake the
camera a bit more on touchdown :-)
