Once I read a story about an American officer who complained to his superior about the way things were handled on the airfields of
Iwo Jima. He thought that repairs to bombers returning from missions over Japan could be done much better and faster. The superior - not in a mood for a discussion - reacted by saying: "Okay, I'll put YOU in charge !" From then on mechanics climbed on the wings of damaged airplanes almost before they stopped after landing. And bombers could resume there return-journey in hours. Maybe I'm wrong about the island-name but for the rest of the story I'm pretty sure. Does somebody know the name of the officer and perhaps some sites where I can read more? |
