What was the model number of the
electric machine gun (mini gun) used by the early Cobra Heliocopters in Vietnam. Where can I go to get a blow up picture of one and a explanation of how it worked, espeically the feed system? Mike |

Details can be found he http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/ah-1.htm And drawings he http://tri.army.mil/LC/CS/csa/cpm197.htm The M197 is a 20mm gun that was fitted in later AH-1s. The original Cobras had a mix of 7.62mm miniguns and 40mm AGLs in the M28A1 chin turret. The 7.62mm minigun was the M134, usually mounted with an M129 grenade launcher, though some aircraft had two miniguns instead (and maybe some had two AGLs?). http://tri.army.mil/LC/CS/csa/cpm28.htm -- Tom Schoene Replace "invalid" with "net" to e-mail "If brave men and women never died, there would be nothing special about bravery." -- Andy Rooney (attributed) |

The early turret only had one M134, but most could mount two weapons. The M134 and 40mm AGL were interchangeable, but one of each was the norm. The FAS detailed page on the M134 is he http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/equip/m134.htm Tony Williams Military gun and ammunition website: http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk Discussion forum at: http://forums.delphiforums.com/autogun/messages/ |
