The markings are just window dressing. 1) I don't think any AD-1's were in combat. I think 09257 was first issued to VF-54, and reassigned for use as a trainer aircraft. 2) VA-115 first had AD-2's, and then went to Korea with AD-4's. 3) As far as I can find, the AD aircraft only had 3 kills. A USMC AD-4 shot down a PO-2 in Korea. In 1966 an A1-H (AD-6) from VA-25, and another one from VA-176, each shot down a Mig-17 ( not in the same fight). 4) The owner of 09257 has named the aircraft "Sincerely Sandy". I don't ever remember any of our AD's being called anything but Spad's and Skyraider's. I think the Air Force is the only one who called the AD a Sandy. |
