Many years ago I was looking after the Radar on Shackletons in the Far
East, - Singapore and Gan in the Maldives. We had a Search and Rescue facility which included wooden launches of about 50 ft. long, with 2 marinised Griffon (Rolls Royce) Aircraft Engines inside. Boy, did these things GO. They ran on Aviation fuel and I doubt if they went very far on their 4,000 gallons. I am writing my memoirs about these years and would like to know if anyone else had anything to do with them and can provide more information and or photos. I was on Gan in 1962 and often went out to test the SARAH beacons that all the Aircrew carried. The Search And Rescue And Homing receiver was installed in the Mk 1 Shackletoms and the TTLs as we called them. Thanks, George. www.maribelecosystems.com (Personal Stuff) |
