What else could be done? They are obsolete in design and combat use. The
Navy no longer needs a long range anti-air platform, the phoenix missile has no targets in the world. The military is scrapping everything of no use and making the money for fund operations to defend us from islam wackos. The Tomcat is once again defending us. |

There are so many F-14's in storage that will never be used again. I hate to see them go too, but with the high demand for black market parts for the Iranian aircraft, they say this is the best way to prevent the Iranians getting them. Rob |

Once upon a time, some Navy folks were saying that battleships would never
be needed. They tied a bunch up to a dock in Hawaii. They were wrong. Older aircraft should be properly mothballed. Or heck, use them as "Weasels" like they did with F-105's and F-4's. Or just for the hell of it, pull the weapons, and sell them cheap to US citizens. Wouldn't be hard to keep track of them. "miket6065" wrote in message et... What else could be done? No lets destroy 3 billion in irreplaceable back up aircraft instead.(aircraft whose capabilities are still unmatched in current inventory) Sounds to me like somebody in the Arizona scrap metal business has some important friends. We should have shipped them to any backwards little country in the world where common sense still prevails and pay them three mules a year and they could probably keep anyones hands of those parts...but not the USA....something is very fishy with this whole thing. |

Rationalize it this way. How many folks do you think there are that toss a perfectly good TV to make room for that $4000 Plasma job? Or send the old 1.2 GHz Pentium 4 to recycle to get the new 3.2 GHz P-4 that has PCI-Express slots and a TV tuner to boot? (you can hook it up to the new Plasma TV !!) Only Uncle Sam does it on a grander scale. Lockheed, GE, Raytheon and L-3 need the business to pay those corporate boardroom and union wages. |

Joe, you've got your tinfoil hat on a little too tight. The F-14s were retired because they're worn out. From http://www.military.com/features/0,1...?ESRC=navy.nl: "The decision to incorporate the Super Hornet and decommission the F-14 is mainly due to high amount of maintenance required to keep the Tomcats operational. On average, an F-14 requires nearly 50 maintenance hours for every flight hour, while the Super Hornet requires five to 10 maintenance hours for every flight hour." When military aircraft are retired, most of them are scrapped. So it is with the F-14. There are plenty preserved in museums and there are dozens still parked here at AMARC. -- One is always considered mad when one perfects something that others can not grasp. - Ed Wood |

Don't we have enough problems without ****ing off a few million more
lunatics? JCE~ To announce that there must be no criticism of the president... is morally treasonable to the American public. "redc1c4" wrote in message ...
