This brought up some interesting memories about food at bases on the old Logair
runs. Starting on the East coast at Dover, their Philly Cheese steak was one to remember. Mcquire was so-so with a basic cheeseburger. Charelston was nothing but basic brown bag/box lunches. Best box lunches were at Offut. With all the brass around they had to make it good. The best over all were the breakfast burritos at Kelly. After an O dark thirty depature from Warner Robins and an arrival at Kelly at around 7 AM it was SOP on arrival to ask for the crew bus to meet us at the ramp. The FE or First Officer were tasked to make the run with myself doing either the refuel if the FE went or the weight and ballance if the FO made the run. Thirty minutes after departure, enroute to SBD, it was breakfast time. A slight warm up by placing them on the TR's under the 245 for a few minutes and it was as close to Logair heaven as you could get. For MAC, now AMC trips, it was the steaks and lobster from Jimmys in Panama. Walt |
