A well respected and well liked glider pilot has been promoted to hero
status in my opinion. The busiest pilot I know is now fighting fires 600 miles from home. He is allowed two minutes of phone time each day. I was a Firefighter long ago and I know what it is like to work a disaster for 24 hours without rest. Reading the paper today, it seems that 48 hours without sleep, doing the hardest and most dangerous work is his fare. He is not paid, he is a volunteer firefighter. He is REX MAYES of Williams Soaring in California God bless Rex and his fellows. Fred |

Here, here!
I was just a Williams this past weekend. Can't think of any glider operation owner who cares more about the sport *and* his customers than Rex and Noel. bumper Minden, NV "fred" wrote in message ups.com... More than once I have seen him rush off the gliderport to respond to local rescue and fire calls. When I heard of the fires down south and saw the mobilization of fire teams from Ncal, I wondered if he would be volunteering. I shoulda known. Of course he would. I am honored to know him and to once have had him as my instructor so many years ago. Bless the Mayes troop. -- Message posted via http://www.aviationkb.com |

Add B/C Sinclair (AKA JJ Jr.) to the list. he deployed Sunday from Elk
Grove with 5 engines .............................last note read; "bumping fires all day and all night, no food, no sleep" You can sleep tonight because your fire department is awake!
