Misawa revamps awards system for airmen
(EXCERPT) , By Jennifer H. Svan, Stars and Stripes Pacific edition, Tuesday, December 16, 2003 MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — In an effort to recognize more Misawa airmen for exceptional work and to create a more equitable rewards program, Misawa’s Top Three Organization has devised a new, additional honor: a wing-level award for individuals and teams. The first Mentorship, Initiative, Leadership and Excellence awards will be handed out at Misawa’s quarterly awards ceremony in January to one enlisted airmen and one team of up to 12 people. Each award — an encased Japanese-style bow, arrow and sword set with an engraved... U.S. and friendly nation laws prohibit fully reproducing copyrighted material. The whole air force should revamp their "award" system for cryin out
loud!!! Jeez,,I've been in the Navy 22 years and routinely see first term Zoomies with more ribbons than myself or my contemporaries! I don't know, maybe it's us?? The "awards" program referred to has nothing to do with decoration
(ribbons). These are like "Airman of hte Quarter" type deals. That is not to say I don't agree with you wholeheartedly- yes, teh USAF has a very warped and inequitable decorations system. Non-pilots don't get awards for "doing hteir jobs" (no matter how well or under what circumstances), while the ZSSG get awards specifically for "doing their jobs."
