__________ 1989 Shorts Tucano T1 The Tucano turboprop trainer replaced the Jet Provost in 1989 in the basic flying training role. Tandem seating gives the Tucano a more slender fuselage, and because the cockpit wraps around the pilot he has everything to hand, as it is in all fast jets - and is much better for the student on solo sorties. Here ZF409 is being readied for a training flight with No 3 FTS at RAF Cranwell (for which the Tucano carries the rear fuselage blue band) in the mid-1990s |
