As an aside, I wonder how many people know that in that wheel-bay there
lurks (or should do) a starting handle? Some Hurricanes, if not all, had
emergency inertia starters.

I think it's the effect of the half-black half-white undersurface colour
scheme used on early hurricanes.

You're probably right. Magnifying that part several times makes it
clearer, but that bit sticking down at the back looks out of place.

That first shot makes it clearer - obviously an airflow regulator.
