What's this about "used against America"? Whatever the History Channel may tell you, the Korean conflict was a United nations operation and many other nations were involved. Doesn't the involvement of the Republic of Korea, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and the United Kingdom count? writes Hello Information on the Vampires and Venoms sought Were they ever used in wartime and were they successful in their rolls. The RAF used Venoms in Operation Firedog in Malaya against the communist forces there. They also used Venoms extensively in the Middle East for ground attack against dissident tribes, etc. and in the Suez business in 1956. What aircraft if any did they fly against The Egyptian Air Force flew Vampires against Israeli Meteors and Mystères in 1956, but lost several in air-to air combat. Pictures of any actions would be appreciated Not on this subject but still aircraft related did the British give to the Russians Rolls Royce engines and technology that could have been used against Americans in Korea As ®i©ardo said, the Labour government did supply the Nene to the USSR. Clement Atlee and his friends thought Uncle Joe was a nice chap, so decided to help him. What happened in Korea was that pilots from the USSR were flying the Mig 15 powered by Klimov versions of the Nene, while the USN had the F9F-2 powered by the Nene-based J42. (in message ): Were they ever used in wartime and were they successful in their rolls. The French Aeronavale used their Venoms (licence-built as SNCASE SE-202 Aquilon) in Algeria in ground support role. France also used the Mistral (Vampire) in air-ground operations in Algeria and in Suez in 1956. The UK used Vampires and/or Venoms in campaigns in Suez, Aden, Malaya and Kenya and doubtless one or two other places as it tried to hold on to its empire in the 50s. I think New Zealand used Vampires in Malaya as well (or were these Venoms?). Egypt had Vampires which I believe put in an appearance in the 1956 fighting, Rhodesia used them in the 60s and 70s in operations against the guerrillas of ZANU and ZAPU and there are one or two other operators/locations I'm not sure about without checking (India in 1965?). -- |
