Just noticed the Region 6 North contest going on at the moment and
wondered how they work the handicaps for a combined 15M $ STD Class contest. It appears as though all the 15M are handicaped at 1.0 and the Std at something else. How is it done officially? Bob |

I thought the names on the score sheet were pretty interesting. Sam "5 Ugly" Giltner, and "DAMMIT" Walt Cawby! Also, is that Ray, as in Galloway, as the CD? The contest website doesn't show any details about the contest at all. |

Bob http://www.ssa.org/files/member/Rules2008Regional.pdf 5.8.2 ‡ † As an alternative to separate 15-Meter and Standard Classes, a Combined 15-Meter Class can be included. To enter this class a sailplane must meet the requirements for the 15-Meter Class (Rule 6.12.4). A sailplane that also meets the requirements for Standard Class (Rule 6.12.5) can compete in the Combined 15-Meter Class and receive a 2% daily scored distance bonus. 11.2.3.6 ‡ † For a sailplane competing in a Combined 15-Meter Class (Rule 5.8.2) that meets the requirements for Standard Class, scored distance is multiplied by 1.02. Isn't there a rule that the CD isn't allowed to compete?

Ray was the CD - and did a great job, as usual.
The combined 15 Meter and Std class worked well (Std had a 2 % handicap bonus), with a Standard winning the first day (raw and handicapped) and a 15 M winning the second, and unfortunately, final day. Weather cost us the first two and last two days - with the two flown days having real "character-building" tasks! Ionia is still a great place to have a contest - friendly and professional operation, GREAT site, landout-friendly local terrain (which got a workout on the last day). We just need more people to show up and race! Oh, and better luck with the weather, of course... Rumor at the final pilots meeting was that they are looking at moving next year's contest to sometime in August, so as to have less conflict with other contests. Ron Clark won the Sports Class in his Ventus 2C - 18 meter wings were really nice to have this week. Some clown in an LS6 won the Standard & 15M class... Kirk LS6-b "66" "Winglets? We dont need no stinkin' winglets!" |

Yep. Rule 3.1.3.3
3.1.3.3 The CD must not be an entrant in any competition over which that CD has authority. Larry Goddard "01" Zero One "MickiMinner" wrote in message : Isn't there a rule that the CD isn't allowed to compete? Micki Minner |

Ray didn't compete. He did great job as CD, and had the unfortunate
job of predicting the weather, which was crap. ~Barny |

My two cents worth is that the handicapping rule that allowed the 15 M and Std to fly together worked really well . A Standard class glider ( Don Wasness ) won the first day and a 15M won the second day (Kirk Stant ) Ron Clarke (ZA) |
