Your record flights may qualify for additional records. If you think
you fit this category, you may want to nudge your SSA State Record Keeper who has been sent the referenced attachment. From the committee chair: "As you're probably aware, Sporting Code Section 3 ("SC3") effective 1 October 2007 removed all prior limits on the number of record claims submitted for a single flight. The pertinent rule is SC3 3.0.2, which now reads, "Any record or records may be claimed for which the requirements are met." In a decision reached late last month, the SSA badge & Record Committee voted to adopt this rule as-is for US National Records, but amend it somewhat for State level records. Specifically, ONE flight may yield any number of DISTANCE records in various combinations of Category, Class and Type, but SPEED records of various Types may be claimed only at the published standard distance immediately less than the distance flown. (Please see the attached for details) Now, in the interest of fairness to State Record Pilots, State Record Keepers' help is needed to get caught up. Each State Record Keeper is asked to review his/her files, determining which pilots who submitted claims since 1 October 2007 may be eligible for one or more additional records. The attached is intended to help State Record Keepers pin this down. State Record Keepers are asked to contact these pilots and... (1) advise them their flight(s) can be re-evaluated for multiple records (2) provide interested pilots a list of CURRENT records or refer them to these at SSA.org (3) ask interested pilots to review the record list and submit NEW applications for any additional records they wish to claim. (The application form alone is sufficient, assuming flight documentation from the original submission is in the State Record Keeper's files.) We strongly advise the Record Keeper to provide a date certain for receipt of any application - the Badge & Record Committee recommends 30 days." |
