Anybody know where I can get data on the comparative cost of American WW2
aircraft (during the war), especially P-38, P-51, F4U, F6F, P-40, B-17? Similar data for British planes would also be appreciated. |

(Watch for line wrap) http://www.maxwell.af.mil/au/afhra/w...equipment.html Specifically, you want Table 82, "Average Unit COst of Airplanes Authorized, By Principal Model: Fiscal Year 1939 to 1945" Nothing for the Brits, though. -- Pete Stickney A strong conviction that something must be done is the parent of many bad measures. -- Daniel Webster |

Needless to say, the price of a Mk II in 1940 would be different to a Mk XVI in 1945, but another 'spares list' price in 1940 can be found here .... http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/melting...s/Spitcost.htm Cheers Dave Kearton |

Yes, I had a mental picture of the 'Spitfire Fund' ladder on the side of our Town Hall during the war. I assumed it was a convenient round figure. Needless to say, the price of a Mk II in 1940 would be different to a Mk XVI in 1945, but another 'spares list' price in 1940 can be found here .... Quite! All that extra weight has to be paid for. http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/melting...s/Spitcost.htm Thanks. Mike -- M.J.Powell |
