Default Schleicher wing tanks

Are the wing ballast tanks of the 27B, 28, and 29, fabricated as
complete assemblies separate from the wing skins, or do the wing skins
form the tanks walls?

Comment from anyone that has seen the wings being built, or has seen
one opened after build, appreciated.

thanks

Andy

They are comprised of the upper and lower wing skins, the spar, end
cap assemblies, and baffles.
When all glued together, it is a wing with internal tank.

Default Schleicher wing tanks

Hi Andy,

some of the 27 have water bags - as opposed to integral tanks (i.e. wet
wings)
Look he

The 28 and the 29 seem to have integral tanks:

hope this helps

Schleicher owners should note that the 29's (after the first few
serial numbers) have vent holes drilled in the leading edges of the
wing root ribs. These holes are about 7mm diameter and are filled with
metal, O-ringed plugs for ballasted flight. If your Schleicher doesn't
have these, I suspect it would be a straightforward retro-fit, but be
aware that the plugs can leak (I had to replace the factory O-rings on
mine with larger ones) and you can make a real mess if you forget to
put the plugs in before you rig and water up!
