Eurofighter - useless in cold weather and fog?
Apparently, the austrian politician Anton Gaal has quoted an article in Der Spiegel, saying the eurofighter won't be allowed to take off in conditions f -5 degrees celsius,or in fog.Sounds rather incredible - what may be the reason for this? If it is true. -- - An Afghan curse: ``May the fleas of a thousand Afghan camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch.'' |

If it is true. Sounds unlikely for a fully operational EF Typhoon. However, it's possible those parts of the envelope have not yet been certified. After all, until you're 100% certain about the zero visibility equipment you really don't want to be taking off in fog. Peter Kemp |

If it is true. Its due to the Production Fighters having to do all the tests again to gain certification, the development/initial production aircraft have proved the aircraft can do it, and they have been certified to that level, when the production fighters get some serious fog and rain they will test them, and certify them. IIRC One point is the speed claim - that they could only do 2000kmh and not 2500kmh this seems a bit odd, the Typhoons were only ever designed to do 2150kmh!!. so the auditors do seem to have been misinformed/misguided/ and or politically motivated.
