Just a heads up for any pilots heading to the US Sports Class
Nationals in southern Utah next week. The upcoming weekend weather looks likely to be pretty showery with a good chance of thunderstorms over the mountains - not usually a good sign for great soaring from Parowan. The good news is that the weather will clear up from Monday onwards and the long-range forecast for the whole contest looks mostly dry. We should have a mix of nice mountain cumulus interspersed with a few blue days. Maximum temperatures will increase from the 70's (20's C) this weekend into the low 90's (30's C) later in the week. I plan to arrive Sunday and will set up my contest weather station and webcam that will be uploaded to a public website. Mike the Strike (Weather Guy) P.S. Bring your own beer unless you want to pay a premium at the State Liquor Store. |

Latest forecasts show that the incoming Pacific storm system is
unusually cold and the upcoming weekend forecast is now calling for "rain and snow showers with thunderstorms". Overnight temperatures are likely to be not too much above freezing and daytime maxima will be unusually low over the weekend - possibly as low as 60 F (15 C). It is still looking better for the contest, although a little cooler than earlier forecasts predicted. Mike |
