Remains of fliers returned to U.S.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/m...19remains.html {EXCERPT} Navy plane crashed in Greenland in '62, by James W. Cra wley UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER August 19, 2004 The last missing crewmen of LA-9 are finally home. Remains of five Navy fliers, killed 42 years when their long-range patrol plane crashed in Greenland, have been returned to the United States after a search team spent 11 days at the glacier crash site, the Navy announced yesterday. "I hope it gives families and friends some comfort and closure," said Capt. Tom Sparks, who headed the 16-member team. "It was 100 percent successful." San Diego resident Don Latimer, a former crew member who transferred just days before the fatal flight, called it "great news" for the families of the long lost airmen. Navy and civilian searchers, using cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar, located the remains and personal effects on a rock-and debris...
