However Orville may have invented the "sport" of gliding:
"In 1911 Orville Wright returned to the Kill Devil Hills with a new glider." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_Glider I wonder what the story behing that was. jsoar |

Further down the page it says the 1911 gliding flights were intended to test an automatic control system, but this wasn't done because there were too many reporters about. I checked "Killdevil Hill" by Harry Combs for more details, but unfortunately it ends with the 1909 flights.
