Was looking at some old Soaring magazines the other day, and I noticed
a number of badges earned from Great Barrington in the 1980s and into th e1990s. So, I'm assuming there was some sort of regular operation there for a while. Any ideas what happened to this operation? |

That was a location for Nutmeg Soaring for a period of time. I got my Gold altitude there June 1, 1985 flying the club ASW-15. Mike Opitz was with me flying his DG-300. We got trapped under an overcast, ridge soaring upwind of the field. Eventually we got high enough to make a downwind run and caught a thermal to cloudbase. Once there we moved out to the upwind side of the cu and ridge soared up the face of the cloud to 12,500 feet. Memorable flight. 9B |
