Default Apollo GX-55 and SL-40 question

Anyone have both of these? I just added the SL-40 and can't seem to find
where and how to make the frequencies from the GX-55 database get to the
REM(ote) list of the SL-40. Looks like it should work, but I sure can't find
it in the manuals.

Is this supposed to work?

Thanks for the help.

Ross Rehfeld,

Ross:
A couple of questions:

1. Who did the installation and did they complete the install check out on the
SL40?
2. Did the install shop make a harness from the SL40 to GX55 for the rs-232
input/output?
3. Did the install shop connect a serializer for altitude information?

I guess it all boils down to how competent the install shop was, and hopefully
you did not pay them too much for their less the steller work.

If they didn't do this, it can probably be added. If I remember right,
the interface doesn't use any of the RS-232 handshaking wires. It just
has TX, RX and GND.

This isn't absolutely neccessary for a GX-55, is it? (it was for my IFR
cert. GX-60)

Jay:
Could you please explain how you can activate the vertical navigation function
on the GX55 when it does not have an altitude serializer input? Also how does
the GX55 know that you are above or below someone's airspace and therefor not
warn you about the class C airspace because you are 4300' agl?

There are plenty of avionics shops who have done a terrible job on GX55, GX60,
GX50, SL30, etc installs. The net result is only about half of the software
features of the units are hardware enabled.

If there's no serialized altitude input, the unit would just use the
calculated GPS altitude. It's not as accurate, but it should work.

That's sure the truth. The shop that installed my GX60 had the plane
in/out of their shop for almost 9 months, and never did finish. With the
GX60 plugged into the rack you (quite literally) have to hold your mouth
right in order to hear either the ADF or the #1 Comm. The RFI from the
GX60 allows me to play them like a tremlo.

Damn, that sucks. I haven't had any real problems with my GX-60 install,
except for a minor mis-wire of the speaker wire (which I don't use
anyway). Of course, I studied the install manual myself, and had complete
wiring diagrams for my existing avionics (which I drew), and I drew a
complete wiring diagram for the tech to use to install my GX-60, including
exactly how I wanted things grounded, shielded, etc.

I never bothered as I can find no need to.
