I was running through the museum and didn't get around to reading about the plane, but I do seem to remember something about the Punitive Expedition. Looks like this one was No. 42. |

Brian Aggressor squadron ? :-) Which reminds me .......... back around 1973/74 I used to lurk around the perimeters of RAF Wattisham, this being at the time when BAe Lightnings were operating from there. It may have been imagination but am certain I saw on a couple of occasions a Lightning with a Russian star on its fin. I've never been able to confirm if this was true. I took several 35mm snaps of the a/c but never caught it at an angle which gave a good view of the tail. A couple of years later I was in a job repairing high security shredders for the MoD which included several units in Comcen under the control tower at Wattisham. So, still being curious I asked about 'the Lightning with the red star'. The airman I asked and the others around went very quiet and an officer gave me a stern look and said "You don't ask questions like that". That's it, nearly 40 years on and I'd still like an answer ;~) ~~ Dingo |
