Thanks again Joseph for posting these very interesting photos.
My friend has sent me the following details on the background of this particular a/c. “Thanks for the photo, which shows the prototype Pup, No 3691. It was delivered to the RNAS at Chingford on 10 May 1916, and then went to No 5 Flight of A Squadron in No 5 Wing (the RNAS then used the term Wing to describe what the RFC called squadrons) from 1 to 22 June, then to 6 Flight and later 2 Flight. FSL S J Goble (the first man to fly around Australia) was credited with an LVG two-seater out of control on 24 September. It moved to 8 Sqn in November, and FSL N E Woods was credited with a Halberstadt on 26 December. The Pup returned to the UK in April and attacked a Gotha bomber on 25 May, when flown by FSL R F S Leslie. It was deleted on 21 December and went to the USA as part of an exhibition. It was planned to preserve the aeroplane, but it didn’t happen.” Cheers, Avsec "Joseph Testagrose" wrote in message ... |
