Region 9 is being held in Moriarty, NM, first week of June. Yes, its not Parowan, Login or Ely so your think you may pass?
Well, let me update you on several flights which occurred their in 2012. One, a late riser, Billy Hill, "Z", took off close to noon and flew over 1000 K. Oh, he didn't stop to thermal for 3 hrs and 35 minutes. His OLC speed was 177K for the 2 1/2 hr. OLC portion.
Mike Abernaty, took off about an hour earlier and went well over 1000K. Now get this, if you measure the direct distance between thermals, he flew 750 miles!
Both flights are on the OLC 6-30-2012.
Our contest area will take you North to Taos and even farther North to Fort Garland, East to Fort Sumner, South to Sierra Blanic, West to Madalena and the great array of antennas.
Your CD and task advisers know this area well and will present a contest which is well worth your time to travel to.
Also a free, yes, free daily morning competition pilots ground school. It will be held at the Southwest Soaring museum!
So, put R9 in your summer racing plans! Hope to see you in Moriarty!

Thanks Tony, what glider?

A Sunday evening welcome dinner with hamburgers and chicken. A Wednesday nite catered meal and a Saturday nite awards dinner are planned.

Also, the new paved North-South runway is done!

Cu bases this time of year, are, yawn, ya, 17,000 msl plus. Sky's full of flat bottom cu's and endless cloud streets which run over snow capped mountain peaks.
You need to get over this Parowan thingie and come to Moriarty for the R9 contest this year!

Deserts?....heard brownies and peanut butter chocolate chip cookies........yum!

I'll be flying my half of a Standard Cirrus in Sports Class. Thankfully my partner in glider is also going to let me fly his half during the contest too. Will make sure to have my O2 bottle full

Just a fast note that early entry will be closing in about a week. Right now ALL
FAI classes (Standard, 15 and 18) are a go and Sports is a go. Water ballast is also allowed.
Weather has been a dry, very dry winter. Prog shows a warmer period with a still dry pattern occurring. Could be, just might be a real shoot out as we have a great list of entrants coming from many points of the compass.
All you groupies need realize Parowan and/or Ely is still asleep this time of year. Flat, hard bottom CUS at 17 thousand plus is what ya been dreaming about, so here's your chance to see and race in an amazing arena.
Ya, gas cost more but if you miss this you might need O2 gas from just reading about it........
