An NPRM has been published for updating the AD 98-22-15 that is applied to the Slingsby Dart sailplanes.
The current AD requires the 5-year repetitive “cutout” inspection per TI No. 109T51 Issue No. 2. This is a complex removal and replacement of a portion of the plywood wing skin to inspect the wing spar. The new AD will require a repetitive annual inspection using an endoscope in existing drain holes in the lower wing skin per TI No. 109T51 Issue No. 3.. The current AD costs $3,400.00 (every 5 years) to complete while the new AD would cost $170.00 (every year) to complete (this info is per the SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION section of the AD). This will be a great operating cost benifit to the current Slingby Dart owners, without compromising safety. You can comment on this AD until 4-22-13.
