Default XC Soar Map Generator link down

Hi all. Just tried to build a map for Bermuda High, South Carolina, USA and the Map Gen link gave the following error...

502 Bad Gateway

nginx/0.8.54

Any chance of getting this corrected or if you are working on it, an ETA? Thanks in advance!

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean, the server that hosted the mapgen has died a couple of days ago. We are working on setting it up again, and it should be online again by the end of the week or sooner.

Thanks Tobias. That puts me in a bit of a tight spot. Day 1 is tomorrow! Shame on me for not downloading this sooner.

Any chance of generating a high res (or low res) map for the Bermuda High, SC (2013 18 Meter US Nationals) contest area and emailing it to me at SMFIDLER AT GMAIL DOT COM?

Thanks in advance!!!

Sean

Sean,

Not to worry - there's no real 'terrain' associated with Bermuda High anyway - it's all FLAT! ;-)

On the turnpoint list they're using for the 18m Nationals, the range of
latitude is 34d08' to 36d08' North and the longitude range is 78d34'
to 81d59' West. I'd extend that about 50km so that any possible AATs
would not go too close to the edge. As it is I gave Sean the map I
generated last summer for flying in that area (which overlaps my home
area somewhat).

Actually, how are the "permanent" areas on the map decided? This year
Region 5 in the US is hosting the most contests of any region in the
country (Seniors, R5N, 18m, R5S, R5W, and Standard) but yet there aren't
any maps for the region unless you generate your own.

They were once imported from the LK8000 project and filtered for duplicates and overlapping areas. If you feel that some are missing then please tell us you suggestions with name and coordinates.

They should be rather generic and not bound to certain competitions. For example there is just a single map for Germany, one for the Alps, one for France, ... I don't know how well that maps to the US, but I could imagine grouping certain states together into useful maps.

The map generator site is working again and I successfully generated a map (Magaliesburg, ZA).
Thanks for fixing it Tobias (or whoever did the work in the background).

Please note that the mail server is not yet configured properly again, which means that you might not receive a mail once the map is ready for download. I will fix that asap.
