All 3 occupants are OK.

Glad they came out all right. Strange that the pilot reported icing last
night -- it was clear here.

Why does the press refer to emergency landings as 'crashes',,, if they were
truly uncontrolled as the word "crash" implies, there would have more likely
been fatalities rather than minor injuries... grrr :-)

if you miss the runway.. its a crash... even if it's an intentional
outlanding in a field by a glider because the lift deteriorated..

but then again.. I've seen some crashes... and dashes.. on the runway..

That's right.

"Today we are reporting that a twin engine Cirrus Piper crashed on a road
just outside Tweediddle township. Fortunately, there were no injuries and
the airplane, after some minor engine repairs, was allowed to take off from
the road."

A couple days ago here in Lenoir, a cub landed on a local golf course, when
the engine quit, due to carb ice. The student with only 20 hrs was solo,
and landed with no damage. A family friend was going to do the takeoff.

I know what you mean. To *me*, a plane that lands off field ,
well they landed....no major damage to people or property including
the aircraft. But in this case where it was reported that
there was serious damage to the plane, I'd generally say that
was a 'crash' as it was a 'mere arrival' was and the damage was
unintended.

You can do both. If you make an emergency landing and break the
airplane (BTDT), it's fair to call it a crash.
