Easy explanation...he had the second engine in the back seat/baggage
compartment and was outside of the W&B envelope.

A quick search at
http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation/activep...quick?x_lang=e
reveals that GTKX is (was!) a 172 with only one engine. :-)
