Emphasis added... " YUBA CITY - The pilot of a small plane of Canadian registry was killed while trying to take off from a street in a new subdivision, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said Monday. The pilot died about 11:15 p.m. Sunday. The Cessna 172 had successfully landed on Claremont Street in the Shanghai Bend area, but crashed and burned while attempting to take off, FAA spokesman Donn Walker said. Officials don't know why he landed in a suburban area or tried to take off again. The pilot of the ==TWO-ENGINE==, four-passenger Skyhawk was believed to be in his mid-50s, but positive identification has yet to be established, Sutter County Sheriff Jim Denney said. "No one has reported a plane missing," Denney said. The plane bore the tail ID designation "GTKX," Walker said. Witnesses reported the plane's tail clipped a traffic sign during the takeoff try" |
