Cambridge model-20 GPS

Anybody know how to wire the model-20, so that the "on" button works? Red and black will turn it on, but the "on" switch doesn't work.

I found THIS http://www.bas.uk.net/docs/GPSNAV5.PDF in the Cambridge
manual:

Model 20/25 power control is more complex. Un-switched power (using the
Red wire) means the GPS-NAV is turned on as soon as power is applied.
The GPS-NAV disptay ON switch is not used. You must use this connection
if the GPS-NAV is to be used without its LCD display and without
connection to a Cambridge L-NAV.

Switched power (using the Green wire) means the Model 20/25 GPS-NAV
responds to the ON switch. Power may also be slaved to a Cambridge
L-NAV. When the L-NAV is turned on, the GPS-NAV turns on automatically.
When the L-NAV is turned off, the GPS-NAV waits 30 seconds and then
turns itself off.

Suggest you read the complete document or look at the diagram. Two pairs. Red and black for "unswitched" power, and yellow and green for "switched" power. Would not recommend using power from one and ground from the other. Might work, but why not follow the manual? Page 36 in the link Dan provided has what you are looking for.

Piker. :-) I think I have 11 that need to go back for the GPS battery replace and date reset. Have a few that are still good, and a couple that are good on the GPS but lost their seal.

Does anybody know if there's a way to activate a task in the old Cambridge flight recorders WITHOUT using the separate display unit? Tasks can be loaded (via a serial cable) from a PC running the Cambridge Aero Explorer software, but they don't appear in the resulting flight logs unless they are "activated" from the display unit. I'm hoping there is an alternative method, e.g., sending some secret phrase to the thing via the serial port. Nothing fancy needed, just make "Task A" active. This is to enable electronic declaration of goal flights.

I don't know if this will help, but I found that sending tasks to the GPS-NAV using Glide Navigator II worked great - as long as the waypoint file in GN II was the same waypoint file loaded into the GPS-NAV. The same was true when using an Oudie 2 and SeeYou Mobile or ConnectMe to sent a task declaration to the GPS-NAV.
