I posted a note a week or two ago about the Compact 110 ,a new design being developed as a foot-launchable ultra-light sailplane. This design is by Bill Spencer and has been the focus of a few articles in several mags including most recently April 94' issue of Kitplanes. Plans are not avalible, but the intruiged me so much that I have designed my own version from the specs and drawings. After 15 years of building and Designing R/C, this will be my first full-scale project. I have several questions for the net about this project. First the design calls for foam ribs in an aluminum D-tube construction. Does anyone have any sugestions about how to bond the foam to the aluminum? Also is there a common construction method for strengthening foam ribs? I am looking currently at using 1lb white foam with aluminum cap-strips. FYI here are some of the specifics about this plane Wing Span 34.5' Aspect Ratio 9:1 Length 16' Empty weight 110lbs (hence the name) All aluminum (mostly) construction with fabric covering foot launch with 10" wheel for landing Performance Max Speed 45mph Stall 20mph L/D 16:1 Min sink @26 3'/sec BTW these are all estimated figures, and are comming from memory, but I think they are close. I would be very interested in some dialoge about the light sailplane end of this wonderful hobby/sport. -Steve Eldredge On Wednesday, March 30, 1994 at 10:21:27 AM UTC-6, Stephen Eldredge wrote: I posted a note a week or two ago about the Compact 110 ,a new design being developed as a foot-launchable ultra-light sailplane.
