To avoid "yo-yoing" rules 1.4.5.b. and 1.4.3.c. of the Code have the "10 km
apart / only once" restriction. Works fine to avoid that pilots fly back and forth between two nearby turnpoints e.g. along mountain ridges. We feel however that it is not reasonable to apply this "anti yo-yo" restriction to long flights where "yo-yoing" is completely out of the question. A proposal to amend this restriction to the much more general form of "no more than three visits to turn points may be claimed" has been prepared and filed to IGC. When the soaring community accepts the amendment proposal, "yo-yoing" is still effectively prevented but long sportif flights are no longer hurt. The unclassified proposal can be seen at: http://home.wxs.nl/~kpt9/Proposals.doc and http://home.wxs.nl/~kpt9/Intention.doc Karel Termaat, NL |
