Use plenty of expletives, have a good grip, forearm and biceps; needlenose pliars equal to the task -- I cover the jaws with duct-tape so as not to burr the spring hooks; and infinite patience. Sometimes you can pull a string or wire or thong attached to the spring hook. I don't remember the details but grit my teeth a little for a lot of effort with so little return on the investment --- i. e., the brakes are just a degree above useless and will get you into trouble if one wheel has much better brakes than the other one. Hint: they won't stop you for a static run-up. I had my first ground loop recently after replacing one actuator cable. The cable stretched so that the heel brake bottomed out and gave the other brake on the other wheel all the authority. No wing-tip damage, though, just rubber left on the runway and the ego from razzing by onlookers. |
