Anybody know a source for metric brass screws for the Microair
transponder? The ones that came with it are steel and I need to cut down on magnetic interference. I think they are 12mm x 4mm dia x 0.8mm pitch. |

Isn't there some much more significant items that could be worked on to meet you goals, than 1/2" long screws? How much difference could that make, compared to the other steel or electromagnetic influences within the radio? -- Jim in NC |

That said, heat them up pretty hot (well into the red region) and water quench them; dead soft, and non-magnetic. I did a REALLY MEAN thing to my son's science class 15 or 20 years ago .... took about 4 inches of 301 rolled flat strip (about 45C Rockwell) and heated one end with a torch, water quenched it. Polished it all up, sent it and a magnet to school. One end stuck QUITE well, one not at all ... told them if any student of teacher could explain why, they could have some reward ... don't remember what I offered. No one had any idea. |
