I read about this interesting glider a few years ago and haven't
heard too much lately. Does anyone know if this project is close to
production.

It is not close to production, but they have been delivering since about
a year. The ship costs something in the range of $ 250 k. Somebody who
flew the Antares commented like this: "You can describe the glider in
two sentences: 1) It's far too expensive. 2) It's worth every penny."

Antares is in production and Lange Flugzeugbau has plenty of orders. The
glider is definetely not cheap, but the prices are less frightening
that what Stefan indicates and not too far off from other 18 m
selflaunchers Should be in the range of 130-140 k Euro.

They have been too busy to update their website frequently, but try to
contact them if you are interested.

One of the first examples has been flying in Italy since september
2004. At least 2 others are going to be delivered soon.
The design of the undercarriage mechanism must be faulty. The glider
recently went back to the factory for modifications. The gear
collapsed twice during ground handling manouvers.
Beautiful and innovative glider.

As of Friedrichshafen they've delivered a dozen.
My friends who've flown it love it (and one has one arriving late this
year).
Time from gliding to full power: 5 seconds.
One handle, no fuss in the cockpit.
Super comfortable cockpit.
Heavy wings full of batteries.
I'm going to try visit and try it !

You can fly it easily, but only in a simulator ;-).

Ola, one of the Silent Wings sw developers is working for Lange, so
Antares is one of the planes in the sim. http://www.silentwings.no
