Our airport terminal has a VFR Sectional Mural of the United States,
taking up one entire wall of the pilot lounge. I've searched online, but can't find such a product. Does anyone know if it exists or where to find it? |

Kyler Laird has a web site that contains hi-res scans of sectional charts and the software to stitch them together. You can do a Google Groups search, or perhaps he'll respond to this message thread. Here's what I've got. https://aviationtoolbox.org/Members/...s/map_explorer For printing...well, you'd want to do some "special stuff". Note that my DVD sectionals subscription lapsed. I'm working with another subscriber to share data. --kyler |

Does anyone know if it exists or where to find it? Search for the JNCA-5 chart. It doesn't take up the whole wall but is good size. http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/inf...ing_Chart.html |

Painted or multiple images glued together? Some of these new flat bed
printers can put out some great stuff. It is a shame that everybody at the airport died and none of the new folks have any idea where or the mural came to be. wrote in message ... Yeah, but it's so old certain areas says "Here dwell dragons". wrote in message ... Our airport terminal has a VFR Sectional Mural of the United States, taking up one entire wall of the pilot lounge. Just individual sections of charts. Our airport has IFR sectionals to
make up such a map. They just trim the white parts off, then start pasting. You'll notice that not everything matches up, due to trying to map the curve of the earth on a flat sheet of paper. I'm trying to do something similiar with VFR sectionals on one my living room walls, more or less centered on the area I fly. Covers a good section of the upper midwest. Note that if the wall map you see really is of VFR sectionals, your FBO must have some really tall walls. Mine starts with the northern Green Bay sectional and ends with the southern chicago sectional, about 4 charts high. I have room for most of the northern parts of the Kansas, St Louis, and Cincinnati sectionals at the bottom (anyone have any unmarked expired sectionals of these they can part with?). From the eastern end, I have the detriot and lake huron sectionals, and the westernmost end has the twin cities northern chart, and below that is a doorway, with parts of the TC and omaha charts going up to the doorway. I can only imagine what a full US map made of VFR sections would look like, just HUGE! John |

Yeah, I've done one on my wall that is JUST Arizona, and I love it. But this one at the airport is the whole U.S., and they aren't full-size sectionals or, as you said, it would never fit. I see you can buy a "full set" of sectionals, 38 of them, for $200+ dollars, but again, they would have to be reduced to fit all on one wall. We tried making one of our area and some of CA and the surrounding area with one of those chart *books*, but the pieces are only about 12 x 14, and the further out you get, the less they match up. Just thought maybe there was a full U.S. sectional mural available for purchase. Kind of surprised there isn't .... would seem it would sell. Thanks to all for responding. I'm going to keep digging for a little while anyway. |
