Is that EAA DVD of OSH 2005 any good?
I don't like the 30+ bucks, but what the heck. Same price + shipping as 16R. My gal had a good thought. She said we'll get onesixright for us, but we should get the Oshkosh DVD for friends and family (6 copies) - since I was actually at Oshkosh and have never even been to California, let alone VNY. OSH 2005 or 16R for my peeps? I'm leaning toward EAA's OSH 2005 DVD. Montblack |

Hmm.... I know this guy that I went to OSH last year that took some amazing
pictures. Hundreds of them in fact. I'm pretty sure he even knows how to use a computer.... may even be able to come up with some great sound tracks.... and some interesting articles about some of the planes that visited OSH from his very own airport... some that he may have even helped restore! I'd bet that guy could put together a better DVD. Jim "Montblack" wrote in message ... Is that EAA DVD of OSH 2005 any good? I don't like the 30+ bucks, but what the heck. My problem is that I am too wrapped up in trying to see everything at OSH, and don't concentrate on taking pictures, even though I take hundreds. -- Jim in NC -- Jim in NC |

This was my first AirVenture, so I bought the DVD.
It was OK, but less than I would have expected. While I enjoyed Rutan's stuff, I didn't see a need for (my exaggeration here...) 15 minutes of it. I enjoyed seeing the aerobatic stuff, but, again, didn't need 20 minutes or more of it. There was too little "this is the guts of EAA" stuff there. A few quick flashes of some of the planes, but mostly it was too much time spent on too few topics. Of course, everyone has their own "druthers", so trying to satisfy everyone would be impractical... As a Safari helicopter owner and publisher of the Experimental Helo
magazine, we go to Oshkosh pretty much every year. This year we bought the DVD and were greatly disappointed. No rotorcraft at all inspite of our being asked to and did perform a fly-by down the main runway two days in a row. Worse yet was the too long aerobatic coverage, with NO coverage of the Awards and then to add insult to injury, the @#$% Jet powered truck, which I believe has no business at an aviation event. There was coverage of the Mooneys and the Bonanzas, but essentially no coverage of the homebuilts. EAA used to be short for EXPERIMENTAL Aviation Association. You sure couldn't relate that title to the DVD content. I think if the current trend continues they need to change the name to be more consistent with the organizational behavior and focus. Maybe something like WAF&JD: Warbirds, Aerobatics, Ford and John Deere. -- Stuart Fields Experimental Helo magazine P. O.
