Default IPAQ 5555 help

I recently bought a Ipaq 5555. It worked fine until yesterday. I am
now getting this error code when turned on. I had to do a "micro"
physical adjustment to the recessed lock tab on the back of the Ipaq to
get it positively lock into the flight cradle. Now this is the message
I get: "Failed to start background reading" (Status=5,
error=102,retcode=0). It no longer will connect to my CAI 302. I've
been to several computer forums with several people having the same
problem, although none had a software fix. Did I break it? I think it's
probably a hardware problem. Anyway, just curious to seek any advice,
thanks...

GP,

I Googled the error and came up with this:

http://www.mobilitysite.com/forums/a...hp/t-6507.html

The last post suggests to remove the battery pack and leave the iPAQ
disconnected for a day or two, which forces a hard reset. Definitely
try that.

Try a hard reset.

Place ipaq flat, press and hold the two bottom outside buttons while
resetting with the pen in the bottom hole the screen the screen will
light up and then get darker. Let go of all.

Place in the powered cradle do not connect to the pc with active sync
and follow the directions on the screen.

Richard: he tried that already (I know the poster, in fact he bought
the Ipaq from me). A number of people have had this problem with their
5500 series, apparently after bumping or dropping the unit, and it
looks like a pure hardware problem.

Gerard: you may want to read this thread too, especially the posts by
Michael Butler:

There's a chance -- a small one, but a chance -- that I bought a
warranty with that unit when I got it at CompUSA last year. I'll check
it out tonight and get back to you.
