Hi Everyone-
I was wondering if I could pick the brains of some of you with more experience than myself.... Can any of you recommmend some great pilot destinations in Washinton or Oregon? I'm aware of Friday Harbor and Hoquiam, but would like to find other airports where a pilot can land and either easily get into town (without renting a car....) or eat at one of those great on field restaurants. Any Ideas would be much appreciated. The 100$ hamburger book/website is nice, but for some reason seems a little lacking in what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance! |

Download Goodle Earth and turn on the airports function. As you zoom into a region, a little airplane symbol appears. In the toolbar, there is a measurement tool to determine distance from point A to point B is you want to walk. From overhead, if you double-click on the approach end of a runway, you can tilt the image down to simulate what the approach picture will look like. Then use the forward button to "fly" to the runway. |

Thanks for reminding me about that one. If you fly IFR from Portland to Sunriver you'll end up going almost right over the top of Mt. Jefferson at 12,000 feet. -c |

Jefferson County, near Port Townsend (great on-field restaurant but far from
town); Harvey Field, in Snohomish. Bob Gardner "Cirrus" wrote in message ups.com... Hi Everyone- I was wondering if I could pick the brains of some of you with more experience than myself.... The Buzz-Inn took over management of the restaurant there when I was based at Harvey, and the quality of the food plummeted. I haven't been willing to eat there since...is it any good now? |

Nehalem Bay state (3S7): paved runway in the state park, walking
distance to a very beautiful beach. Siletz Bay state (S45): walking distance to the beach, and a nice cafe. check airnav for more info Florence (6S2): Courtesy car available. You can drive to the beach or visit the Heceta head light house. Beautiful sand dunes near the airport. Pierce county (1S0): great breakfast restaurant on field Bremerton (PWT): great seadfood restaurant on field. SHORT runway, and the park is great but it's a bit of a hoof into town. Probably the closest restaurant is the Bunkhouse, which closes at 3 p.m. even on weekends, and there's a couple right off the highway in Manzanita, but it's a long walk to a pay phone and a longer walk into town. I'm not sure they have cab service out there. -c |
