Does anyone know who organizes the forums at Oshkosh and have contact
information? One of the forums I attended was truly bizzarre and I'd like to provide some feedback about it to the powers that be. The presenter was off topic for most of the time, pushing an extremely unusual world view. Even when he was on-topic, his presentation was rife with errors and omissions, many of which seemed to support his unusual socio/political leanings. No, I'm not spilling the beans on who it was or the forum topic. I'm more interested in making sure that I don't waste time on mislabeled forums at Oshkosh in the future. If someone wants to host a forum about their unusual world view, that's fine. Just make sure the forum is properly titled so I don't waste my time due to a bait and switch. KB |

I assume the guy was a volunteer and was hosting the forum for free. I would never call out a volunteer in a public forum. Instead, I'd like to provide some feedback to the EAA. Maybe they will do a little follow-up work and if the guy hosts a forum next year that forum won't suffer from the same problems. |

My complaint was that the stated forum guidelines say that the forums aren't supposed to be blatant infomercial for the presenters commercial product or services, but it seems they allow just that (I bugged out early of the "living with your plane forum" as it seemed to be little more than some real estate agent stumping for her business. |

Ohmygawd, was that an incredible presentation, and I don't mean incredible in a good way. There were so many outlandish claims, so many "facts" and so much "detail" that was completely wrong, it was sickening. I couldn't help myself, when he was done with his presentation on the day I saw him, I went up to him and told him he was full of ****. Not exactly an educated, academic type of response I know, but I felt it was appropriate. Just a minor "for instance": he claimed that during an open house/ air show at Norton AFB, California, senior member of the government were taken into the largest hangar at Norton and shown a classified anti-gravity ship that could easily travel among the stars. One "witness" supposedly told him all the detail, including that the craft had ACES 2 ejections seats from an F-4 Phantom, and obviously had been built in the early 1960s. Well, aside from the prototype, F-4s had Martin Baker Mk-H-5, and later Mk-H-7 seats, ACES 2 didn't appear until the mid -1970s and was to my knowledge NEVER flown in an F-4. That doesn't address the IMHO ridiculous assertion that a highly classified display was given in a hanger during an open house with thousands of civilians milling around just outside. And to have this happen at Norton, not Edwards, Tonopah Test Range, or someplace much more secure, that just boggles my mind. I can't believe EAA gave him the time of day. Sadly, Oshkosh's local paper gave him a nice write-up without really challenging his assertions at all. http://www.thenorthwestern.com/apps/...73252563925769 Scott Wilson |
