This B-26B Marauder s/n 41-17790 flown by Lieutenant Clarence C. Walsh, was
assigned to the 437th Bombardment Squadron of the 319th Bombardment Group. While being ferried to England the crew were lead astray by a false German beacon. The aircraft developed an engine problem which lead to fuel starvation. Walsh subsequently bellied in onto the beach at Noord Beveland, a German-occupied Dutch Island near Rotterdam. The incident took place on the 3rd of October 1942. The Germans repaired the damage and later flew it to the Rechlin Test Centre in June 1943. The runway was too short, so it was transferred to Larz. Cheers...Chris |
