Hi guys need somehelp working out what has been flying round near my place.
I live on the North Coast of N.S.W Aus and has seen at night and once in the day a large military transport flying bout , its biger than a C130, propeller driven and has 6 engines. I know the C130 is the biggest we have and i have not seen a 6 prop before. Any help would be great. |

I reckon it's a 4(four) engined flying boat with floats on the wingtips which you are mistaking for engines. HTH, Nick |

A mate herd bout some Rusian thing that might be out here on trial? There have been very few six engine planes ever built, even fewer in the last half-century, and only one or two of them would qualify as "transports." Only one really big one had propellers, and it got broken up for scrap before I was born. More detail, please. For example: High-wing or low-wing monoplane? Single or double tail? Cruciform or "T" tail? Turboprop or piston engine? Tractor or pusher props? What color is it? If it weren't for the "propeller" description, I'd start looking into the whereabouts of one and only one aircraft: The Antonov-225. It's the only big modern "transport" type plane with six engines that comes to mind. -- Remember: Objects in rearview mirror may be hallucinations. Slam on brakes accordingly. |

If you are referring to the Convair XC-99, it wasn't scrapped but is in San Antonio, albeit in terrible shape. Tex |

The KC-130 has only 4 engines, but the underwing pods often are mistaken for engines. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/kc-130-ifr.jpg http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/a...30-goingri.jpg T! |
