The B-29, F-84F, S-16 and B-36 were there but even then they were sawing up planes on the flightline with chainsawa and the like. Sadly watched them cut up an RF-105, apparently a prototype.. |

![]() "ArtKramr" It is the way all planes end up. Shed a tear and never forget. Hell Art, in Canada they even cut up brand new prototypes! Remember the CF-105 AVRO Arrow????? The government it seems are more interested in preserving old crates, like the Sea King for instance! :-( Is Chanute still an active base? I was there for an exchange Maintenance Analysis course when I was with a Canadian Bomarc Squadron as a quality control inspector way back when!. Ed |

Got hit in the first round of base closings. Posted via www.My-Newsgroups.com - web to news gateway for usenet access! |

That plane is in very good hands - I first visited the museum last March and most of the staff are retired USAF folks who really care about the collection. I didn't know a B-18 existed any- where until I saw the one at Castle. Best, Paul |

Did the B-36 go to Castle AFB or Norton AFB? I left Chanute in November 1990 and remembered them cutting up the that big bomber and loading it up on flatbed semi trucks. I always heard the B-36 was going to Norton AFB but that was many, many beers ago! NKAWTG! Eggroll |
