![]() In line with veedubber's approach to engineering it yourself. in all the times I've seen applecheeks used for fairing the engine I've only ever seen one guy actually make use of them. behind the firewall they dont conduct air ...usually, so they are wasted volume. one chap still sticks in the mind for innovation. he had made a compartment in each side accesible behind a flap with one of the flush press to release catches. in flight it was neat and fully clean streamlining. one side held a small tool roll with the essential minor repair tools. the other side held a quart bottle of oil, a rag and a small PET bottle of nuts and bolts. a very neat arrangement that gave storage and kept the cg right. in veedubber's case you could store black powder in one and lead shot in the other.
