Department stores like Penney's, Macy's, etc. tend to get in small tool
kits for sale as gifts at Christmas. After Christmas, these go on sale for half-price or less. Now, the tool quality of these kits is generally very low. However, one item they often sell is a small battery-powered screwdriver kit. These are jim-dandy for keeping out at the airport...they use alkaline cells, not Ni-Cds, so you don't have to keep them plugged in or worry about the cells losing power over time. Alkaline cells have a pretty good shelf life, so you can just keep a replacement set handy. Also, the kits include an assortment of bits. Again, not high quality, but they're OK for routine work. In past years, I've bought two different types of these kits for about $5 each. Again, you couldn't *build* an airplane for one of these, but for having handy to remove/replace stuff like cowling screws, they're ideal. Ron Wanttaja |
