I got an e-mail from a lurker wanting to know why I always referred to fighter
cover as "TOP COVER" That's because our (USAAC) fighters always flew above us so they would have a sigificant diving advantage over any attackers The RAF Spits however socked in around us like a clamshell and went down after any flak battery that had the nerve to fire at us. I really liked Spit fighter cover but we got a lot more USAAC cover that RAF cover. . That is when we were a lucky enough to get any fighter cover at all.
