....help me earn my Instrument Rating when you do!! I used my programming
career to aid in the creation and upgrade of an online pilot store. If the store is successful I will have earned for my hours of work the instruction time needed for my instrument ticket (the site is owned by a San Diego flight instructor). I apologize if the post here is inappropriate, I'm just looking for a decent audience. I have utilized this rec site for a long time to get good information and was the first place I thought of. The store is pretty darn good...close to 1200 items all marked well below mfg sugg price. I am still in the process of uploading all the picture shots, but the quantity is there. www.pilotjourneystore.com Thanks for reading - Jon Baker, PP-ASEL |

You do that amount of work on speculation????? You get paid ONLY IF he
makes money? Nothing wrong with working on trade-out, web site design in exchange for instruction, or even doing a single page as a free sample to get the job, but not very professional on either of your parts to do it on speculation. For both of you, it should be you do the work, you get paid. Period. wrote in message news ![]() ...help me earn my Instrument Rating when you do!! Tough times breed innovation. Welcome to the new IT world, check your
credentials at the door, they're useless now. "Steve House" wrote in message ... You do that amount of work on speculation????? You get paid ONLY IF he makes money? (Sam" wrote) Looks like a pretty good site to me! I wouldn't worry too
much about apologizing... People in this group advertise their hotels and such all the time. This is one of the most cliquish newgroups I have ever seen though, so you may get ripped on unless you "belong". Shhh, I don't really belong here either!! For one, I sometimes top-post :-) I've been *plonked* once (that I know of) and recently was called a Troll. I've been called an idiot and, well, and idiot again. Even so, I enjoy hang(ar)ing around here in my free time. I think this is a very welcoming newsgroup. Many of the folks here do know each other pretty well, but I wouldn't call that cliquish. I went to an EAA meeting at my local airport this spring. Didn't know a sole, wasn't building a plane. I was quiet and kept to myself, while a room full of friends had their meeting - complete with inside jokes and vague historical references to other inside jokes. After the meeting, I ended up volunteering for a few things, and now know a couple more people over at the airport than I did before the monthly meeting. That EAA chapter wasn't cliquish either, they were quite welcoming. Now, if I had stood up and spouted off about something I was on shaky ground defending, they would have eaten me alive - then adjourned for coffee and cookies. -- Montblack |

I'll would receive the trade agreed upon regardless of the financial
outcome. The owner of the store is a local CFI, and I would just feel much better if her project really took off and did well as a result of the changes. I guess the way I worded it sounded like my success relied on the stores increased success. "Steve House" wrote in message ... You do that amount of work on speculation????? Not a matter of credentials, just good business practices. If he wants to
take the risk, he's welcome to it but IMHO it's extremely unwise. Known too many people who have been thoroughly ripped off by doing work on spec. "idkw" wrote in message om... Ahh, don't feel too bad...
The reality is, any time you give a customer any sort of terms, you run the risk of being dependent on their success for payment. I had a customer for whom I did a bunch of work thinking I was actually going to get paid for it in 30 days, and they were sold in an asset sale by their bank 90 days after my invoice date... Of course, all legal advice I received was that my invoice was going to be at the bottom of the list behind the bank's secured credit, and I was SOL... I'm with you - spread the word and help make your customer successful! Protect your investment and collect your training time! wrote in : I'll would receive the trade agreed upon regardless of the financial outcome. Well, I would agree that it's a very *helpful* newsgroup. People here do seem to know what they're doing and are quite willing to offer advice, which is pretty cool. But some here also seem a little stuck on themselves, which is kind of a turnoff. |
