Okay, so I finally got some time here to post the pics from Oshkosh 2003.
Got a couple of good ones from the Rec.Aviation party that we hosted at our campsite in the North 40... See 'em at http://www.alexisparkinn.com/oshkosh_2003.htm Look closely, and you'll see pix of Ron & Margy getting snugly, and Mary, Christine, and Margy dancing on the wing-walk of Atlas, after a, ahem, "few" drinks... ![]() There are also a couple of decent shots of the beautiful (and tragic) Hughes Air Racer... Enjoy! -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

Nope, Jim -- wasn't me.
Musta been that OTHER sunburned, weary-looking guy with a goofy floppy hat that always goes to OSH... ![]() -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" I almost forgot, but after seeing the pics of you I need to ask. Did you happen to stop by the forum about Which Airplane is Right for You, that the fellow from Iowa put on during the rain storm on Wednesday or Thursday? A guy that looks suprisingly like you in your Osh hat sat right in front of me and my wife. |

Ahem...about time Jay :-)
Just kidding, couldn't resist. While I'd like to think my e-mail prodding got you to post the pics., I'm sure what actually happened was you got one of them "round-to-its" :-) Cool pics., thanks for sharing. Just wondering about your "Alexis Park Inn" banner... I noticed it was only there for a day or two. What happened? Did it blow away in the wind? Did the Hilton folks have a cow? Or what??? Curious |

I always wondered what those long stick-like things at the front (and back
of some) planes were for. Now I can say conclusively that they're sleeping bag dryers! :-) (Thanks for posting the pics!) Eric |

only there for a day or two. What happened? Did it blow away in the wind? Did the Hilton folks have a cow? Or what??? After the first tent blew down, we only deployed it for special occasions -- meaning when we were actually at the campsite. Since this only happened in the late evening, chances are you didn't see it much. Eventually (using pieces of the old tent!) we rigged up a way to fly it "free-standing" -- which we now do at other special events. Our old tent lives on! (And the Hilton, raking in over $40,000 per night throughout the show, not counting the restaurant and bar, didn't need to worry about US, that's for sure...) -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

Virtually every plane, in front of every tent, at every campsite in OSH had a variety of items hanging from the props this year. It was the first Osh I've ever attended -- and we've been there a bunch -- where it rained every day. Not a lot, mind you -- just enough to make you watch the skies warily throughout the day. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I like your use of qualifying language, especially the "virtually" part. My campsite withstood the wind and rain. I did, however, take down the tarp during the windstorm Tuesday afternoon to protect the airplane. It was then used to cover the kitchen equipment while the rain lasted. Next year, I am thinking of offering a class to the unenlightened on how to stake one's tent so it doesn't blow away during the Oshkosh monsoon season. With an extra credit class on how to repair tent poles with duct tape and beer cans. ;-) |
