I remember something like this being discussed for 12 meter sailboat hulls
and appendages, the idea being to mimic the displacement of the skin of fish or marine mammals. It was stated that the skin/water interface was supposed to provide the needed heat dissipation. Does anyone else remember this and whether it was pursued by the naval architects and engineers? Here's a link to a paper that may bear on the mechanism. It's different in
that the authors suggest an active adjustment of the ridges in dolphin skin (I'll skip the obvious pun). http://www.spawar.navy.mil/sti/publi...mals/ieee-m-b- 9-93.pdf Raphael Warshaw 1LK |
